BTU Remembers Virginia Norwood, the “mother” of NASA’s Landsat Program

March 27th marked the passing of Virginia Norwood. Ms. Norwood was a brilliant aerospace pioneer dubbed “the Mother of Landsat” for developing a scanner to record different light and energy spectra. That work led to the formation of the system still used today by the US Geological Survey and NASA to manage land resources and measure climate change data.
